Harbinger Unveils HC Series Cab: The Electric Low Cab Forward Truck Redefining Medium-Duty Performance
For years, fleet managers have faced an impossible choice. Do you pick a work truck with great gas mileage but weak hauling power? Or do you choose one that can carry heavy loads but guzzles fuel and can barely turn around in a parking lot?
Harbinger Motors just proved you don’t have to choose anymore.
At Work Truck Week 2026 in Indianapolis, the California-based truck maker unveiled the HC Series Cab. This new electric low cab forward truck comes in both all-electric and hybrid versions. It’s built from scratch as an electric vehicle, not a diesel truck with a battery stuffed in. And according to Harbinger, it finally delivers what work fleets actually need: power, flexibility, and real-world range.
As a certified Harbinger dealership, Range Zero Emissions works directly with customers and fleets to find the best vehicle that fits their needs. The addition of the HC Series Cab to the Harbinger lineup gives our customers more options when speccing out their work trucks. With Class 4, 5, and 6 configurations available, fleets get the flexibility and customization they need to match their specific operations.
We are excited to grow the Harbinger portfolio and give customers and fleets more pathways to electrify. The innovative HC Series Cab chassis expands Range’s electric vehicle stable to fit many diverse applications and operations—from urban delivery to construction and utility work.
What Makes the HC Series Cab Different
Most electric work trucks on the market today started life as regular gas or diesel trucks. Companies simply swapped out the engine for an electric motor and called it done. That approach creates problems. The truck ends up heavier. It loses cargo space to batteries. And it still drives like it was designed 20 years ago.
The Harbinger HC Series Cab took a different path. Harbinger designed every part of this truck to be electric from day one. The company builds the motor, battery pack, steering, and brakes all in-house at their facility in Garden Grove, California. This approach gives them control over how everything works together.
The low cab forward design puts the driver up front with the cab over the front wheels. This layout has big advantages for city driving. You can see better. You can fit longer cargo boxes on a shorter truck. And you can squeeze into tight spots that would stop a regular pickup-style truck cold.
The HC Series Cab weighs in at 26,000 pounds fully loaded. Harbinger says it can carry just as much cargo as the leading diesel trucks in its class. You can order it set up for cargo boxes, stake beds, flatbeds, or other body styles. The shorter wheelbase with longer cargo space means you get more room for stuff without making the whole truck longer.
Here’s what really stands out: the HC Series Cab has a turning diameter of just 42 feet on the 158-inch wheelbase model. For comparison, that’s tighter than many full-size pickup trucks can manage. When you’re making deliveries on narrow city streets or working in crowded job sites, that matters.
An EV Built for City Work
Urban delivery and service fleets face brutal conditions. Tight streets. Constant stops and starts. Pedestrians and cyclists everywhere. Loading zones that barely fit a shopping cart, let alone a truck.
The HC Series Cab was designed specifically for these challenges. The low cab forward design puts the driver almost over the front axle. This gives you a much better view of what’s directly in front of and beside the truck. You can see cyclists, pedestrians, and obstacles that would be hidden in a regular hood-forward truck design.
The frame sits just 29 inches off the ground when the truck is fully loaded. That low height makes getting in and out faster and safer. It also makes loading and unloading much easier, especially when you’re doing it 50 times a day.
Inside, the independent front suspension gives you a smoother ride than traditional work trucks. The electric motor’s instant response makes the truck feel quick and nimble in traffic. Drivers used to fighting a lurching diesel transmission usually notice the difference on their first drive.
For safety, current HC Series Cab trucks come with backup cameras that show you exactly where the truck will go, virtual bumpers that warn you about obstacles, and acoustic alert systems to let pedestrians know you’re there.
What It Costs to Own and Operate
Harbinger prices their vehicles at what they call “acquisition parity” with comparable diesel trucks. That means the upfront cost should be similar to what you’d pay for a traditional truck in the same class.
The purchase price matters, but smart fleet managers know to look at the total cost of ownership. That includes fuel, maintenance, downtime, and how long the truck lasts.
Harbinger says they’ve engineered the HC Series Cab to last more than 450,000 miles. The platform comes with an EV industry leading 10-year warranty on the battery and drivetrain. The company targets a 20-year service life for the overall vehicle.
Electric drivetrains need much less maintenance than diesel engines. No oil changes. No transmission fluid. No diesel exhaust fluid. No particulate filter cleaning. The brake pads last longer because regenerative braking does most of the stopping work. All of this means less time in the shop and more time working.
The modular front-end design makes repairs easier and faster when something does need fixing. Since Harbinger uses many of the same parts across their different truck models, fleet maintenance shops can keep fewer spare parts on hand and still be ready for whatever breaks.
For energy costs, electricity is generally cheaper than diesel fuel per mile driven. The exact savings depend on your local electricity rates and how you charge (at night during off-peak hours saves more).
The hybrid version gives you the efficiency of electric driving with the flexibility of gas when you need extended range.
Who Should Consider the HC Series Cab
The HC Series Cab makes the most sense for specific types of work.
Urban delivery fleets running predictable routes in cities will benefit most from the tight turning radius and excellent visibility. If your drivers are navigating crowded downtown streets and making frequent stops, this truck was designed for exactly that work.
Service and utility companies that need onboard power will love the mobile generator capability. HVAC techs, electricians, plumbers, and similar trades can power their tools right from the truck. City maintenance departments, parks departments, and utility crews can eliminate standalone generators from their equipment lists.
Construction companies and contractors working on job sites without power access can use the 15-kilowatt output to run everything from power tools to temporary lighting. The hybrid version means you can keep that power flowing all day without worrying about battery depletion.
Municipal and government fleets trying to meet zero-emission goals now have a work truck that can actually do the job. The hybrid option means you don’t have to compromise on range or capability while you transition to cleaner vehicles.
Regional operations running routes up to 500 miles round trip can use the hybrid version without range anxiety. That covers a lot of distribution, delivery, and service territory for most fleets.
Order Now
If you manage a fleet of medium-duty trucks, especially if those trucks work in cities or need onboard power, the HC Series Cab deserves a serious look. The days of choosing between capability and efficiency are over.
The question for fleet managers isn’t whether electric work trucks are ready for prime time anymore. The HC Series Cab proves they are. Range will have a demo HC Series Cab later this year to experience Harbinger’s fleet flexibility and customization when specing their truck. It can fit many diverse applications and operations. The real question is how much money you’ll save by making the switch sooner rather than later.
